THE POTENCY OF COMMUNION: OUR UNION WITH CHRIST
Matthew 26:17, 26–29; 1 Corinthians 5:7–8
The Holy Communion is not a mere ritual—it is a divine ordinance and spiritual mystery that affirms and reinforces our covenantal union with Christ. It is a sacred participation in the body and blood of Jesus Christ, a continual reminder and renewal of the new covenant established through His sacrifice.
1. Communion: A Proof of Our Union with Christ
In Matthew 26:26–29, Jesus instituted the Lord’s Supper as a representation of His body broken and His blood shed for our redemption. As we partake, we are not simply remembering an event—we are spiritually engaging with the finished work of Christ. Communion is a divine affirmation of our spiritual oneness with Him.
2. The Power to Destroy the Body of Sin
According to 1 Corinthians 5:7–8, we are called to purge out the old leaven, that we may be a new lump, for Christ our Passover Lamb has been sacrificed. The unleavened bread in the Passover feast symbolizes a life free from sin and corruption. The Communion meal is a spiritual weapon—it devastates and destroys the inherited nature of sin from Adam. Each time we partake, we enforce our deliverance from spiritual bondage and affirm our freedom in Christ.
3. The Blood: God’s Divine Purge
The blood of Jesus carries purifying power. Every participation in the Cup is a divine operation that purges out everything that is not of God. It is a moment of spiritual cleansing and empowerment.
“As often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes” (1 Corinthians 11:26).
Each Communion strengthens our spiritual identity, increases divine consciousness, and enforces victory over darkness.
4. A Foretaste of Glory
In Matthew 26:29, Jesus speaks of the day He will drink it anew in His Father’s Kingdom. Communion, therefore, is not only a present engagement—it is a prophetic act, a foretaste of the eternal union and joy we shall experience in heaven. It draws our hearts heavenward and heightens our anticipation of Christ’s return.
5. Communion and Favor
John 1:14–16 declares that from Christ’s fullness we have received grace upon grace. The table of Communion is a channel of divine favor. When we stay connected through His body and blood, we remain under the flow of grace that never runs dry.
Exodus 3:21 further links the covenant to favor—just as Israel found favor before their exodus, and the wealth of Egypt was transferred to them, so do we partake of divine favor through the covenant meal.
PRAYER DECLARATIONS:
- As I partake of the Communion, let anything in my life that does not reflect favor be consumed by the power in the blood of Jesus.
- I declare that the curse of lack and want is broken.
- By the blood and flesh of Jesus, my hands shall no longer be empty.
- Satanic slavery ends now. I receive my liberty through Christ my Passover.
- Through this Communion, I step into realms of unlimited favor and grace.
- I am marked by divine favor and distinguished by covenant blessings.
Revelation 5:6 presents Christ as the Lamb who was slain yet stands victorious. As long as He stands, we stand. In Him, we are unshakable.
FINAL PRAYER (1 Corinthians 5:7–8):
Lord, purge me of every evil nature and tendency. Let the old leaven be removed. Purify my heart and make me a vessel worthy of Your presence. As I partake of the Communion, may I walk in righteousness, grace, and divine favor. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
